You might say this song is typically Irish with its simple concentration on that which makes life tolerable! It's a fine song to sing. I've never actually heard it sung either live, on record or whatever. I picked up in Soodlum's 100 Irish Ballads Volume 1 some years ago and have sung it loads of times to German audiences. It's a belter and goes well with my voice.
I later came across an Australian version of All for me grog which has practically the same character.
When with Das Trio it would be sung by Maike Weyerts while I accompanied her on my concertina..
