The Clancy Brothers
Last updated: 13.02.21
p_clancy.jpgAccording to the Internet source given below, The Clancy Brothers were an influential Irish folk group that initially developed as a part of the American folk music revival. Most popular in the 1960s they are widely credited with popularising Irish traditional music in the United States and revitalising it in Ireland, paving the way for an Irish folk boom with groups such as the The Dubliners and the The Wolfe Tones. The group was famous for its often lively arrangements of old Irish ballads, rebel and drinking songs, sea shanties, and other traditional music.

On a personal note I was introduced to music of The Clancy Brothers by a great friend red-haired Dubliner Petty Officer "Paddy" Lynch whilst we were on a promotion course at HMS Collingwood in 1964. Their songs formed the greater part of my initial repertoire and to this day in July, 2019 for which I am eternally grateful. Cheers Paddy wherever you my be!
