The Convict of Clonmel
Last updated: 11.10.23
This song is in my personal top twenty. I love its sadness and it's great on occasions to provoke the odd tear or two from an unsuspecting audience. "..... The strong rope of death for the young neck is twining." I first heard on a radio broadcast back in the early eighties and I have a wonderful rendering by the Clancys.
The version I sing can be found in the Clancy Brother's The Irish Songbook
