Goodnight Sweetheart
Last updated: 02.02.24
I learned "Goodnight Sweetheart" quite by accident as a temporary bass member of Chor Courage whose project was to sing Krönungsmesse KV 317 by Wolfgang A. Mozart in 2002. Now this choir alternates its repertoire between classical works and popular music on an annual basis so for relaxation, they would often sing such songs. With this song, my various musical world all came together. I enjoyed it so much that I worked out a recorder arrangement for Bremen Recorder Touring Company. This culminated in a mass performance by both groups at Ceilidh 2003 to the delight of all.
This song is the work of Calvin Carter and James "Pookie" Hudson written in 1951 its original titlle being Goodnite, Sweetheart, Goodnite.
The SATB arrangement we sang was by Robert Hudson and can be found in 4 Voices.
This is not to be confused with the "pub" song, my definition, Goodnight Sweetheart by Ray Noble, Jimmy Campbell and Reg Connelly.
