German DescriptionPersonal remarks:
Through the good office of Monika Jenne who I knew as a member of
De Saitenspeeler I was invited to join
Chor Courage to join their project to sing
Wolfgang A. Mozart's
Krönungsmesse KV 317 in 2001. For almost a year I would make a weekly pilgrimage from Bremen-Vegesack to Berne for rehearsals. After having sung for 3 years with the very formal
Collegium Musicum Bremen it was quite an experience singing such a work in such a setting. Having known rural choirs such as the Männerchor Meyenburg and their idiosyncrasies, it was no great surprise that the basses very quietly and surreptitiously passed bottles of beer amongst themselves whilst the leader, Dirk Ibbeken, was occupied by the other voices. Happy memories indeed!.
The concert was finally given in the St. Aegidus Kirche in Berne in 2002.
After I left the choir, I was presented with a handsome signed photograph of them which still adorns my "music room". At my retirement "concert" (
Ceilidh 2003) the
Courage Chor rejoined me on the stage of Gustav-Heinemann Bürgerhaus.
