It was Dr. Rosteck, the vocal ensemble leader of the Studiooper der Universität Bremen, who introduced this most beautiful German folk song in the form of a Johannes Brahms arrangement for vocal quartet. It was wonderful sing it under Oliver's direction at the Schönbergiade 02 and Ceilidh 2002 in June 2002. It is a gentle love song, heavily romantic - our swain is overcome by the beauty of his beloved and cannot bear the thought of her possible denial of his love her.
