I first heard "Aber Heidschi Bumbeidschi", a Tyrolian folk song, sung by the The King's Singers
on their LP Die King's Singers singen deutsche Volkslieder
. In Germany this song is for many people part of the Christmas scene and is often indeed regarded as a Xmas song. Believe me, this song can be heard in every supermarket throughout the land! Probably every German entertainer has it in his or her repertoire. An Englishman, I am never asked to sing it!
It is very difficult for a humble (really?) folk singer such as myself to take on the King's Singers so you won't be surprised to learn, dear surfer, that I do a particularly lousy job of it. I do love however playing the chords given in the version found in Lieder, Songs und Gospels 2
and it is a wonderful piece for the concertina which allows me to redeem myself just a little.
