My thanks are due to Monika Jenne, mezzo-soprano, of the De Saitenspeeler, a North German folk group with whom I have helped out a couple of times, for this "folk-song" now being in my repertoire. I had the privilege of accompanying her with my concertina at a Farewell Recital in the Havenhaus, Vegesack in February 2001, which went down extraordinarily well, as also with Wayfaring stranger. Summertime is of course a very well known George Gershwin song from Porgy and Bess which The New Penguin Dictionary of Music quotes as an opera. A fine song indeed!
