Polly's Song is from Act 2 of
Der Dreigroschenoper (Three Penny Opera) by Bertolt Brecht (words) and
Kurt Weill and first performed at the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm, Berlin in 1928.
Along with
Seeraüberin Jenny,
Nina Kreft always sang these two songs together. My part was basically that of a stage prop - i.e. to gaze, open-mouthed and enraptured at her performance on centre stage from almost in the wings. For me, those were amongst her best songs and my state of enrapture was genuine. I would beg her to sing it at almost every occasion we met for a musical evening.
Polly's Song can be found in
Die Dreigroschenoper published by
Universal Edition.
