The version of "Annie Laurie" that I sing can be found in
Folk Songs of the British Isles. I have always heard of this fine Scottish love song but did not really get immersed in it until looking for love songs for a new CD.
It has a lovely simple tune well-suited to the concertina. With lines like
Her brow is like the snowdrift - her neck is like the swan indicates its age and level of sentimentality. In all a fine song indeed, only my imperfect Scottish accent prevents me giving it a wider airing.
