The Spinning Wheel

"The spinning wheel" is lovely song telling the story of an enterprising young maid who on performing outstanding gymnastics, to whit turning a spinning wheel with her feet whilst climbing out of a window, outwits her blind grandmother and gambols off into the moonlight with her lover. The song doesn't say what they get up to but I suspect that playing cards is probably the wrong answer. A bit of gentle Irish bonking is the more likely order-of-the-day.
Joking apart it's great to sing and the song is yet another that I found in Soodlum's 100 Irish Ballads Volume 1.
When with Das Trio it would be sung by Maike Weyerts while I accompanied her on my concertina..
