Simon the Cellarer
Last updated: 11.10.23
Published in 1860, Simon the Cellarer was composed by John Liptrot Hatton (1809-1886) and its lyrics written by W. H. Bellamy. This fine Victorian song tells the humorous story of a middle-aged couple, both very much attached to their tipple, whereby the wily cellarer evades the amorous advances made by one Dame Margery who, in her old age, seeks to enter the state of matrimony. We found a version in Community Book of Fireside Songs.

This song is included in We're Only Here For The Beer! - Light by Dr. Rosteck and myself.
