The Banks of the Sacramento
Last updated: 28.01.22
"The Banks of Sacramento" is very well known here in Germany whereby the verses are generally sung in German and the choruses sung in English! The version I sing is taken from a popular German songbook Lieder, Songs und Gospels 3 which has nice clean sanitised verses incapable of inflaming anybody. As with Rolling Home and My Bonnie lies over the ocean it may be sung several times in a single session. Each time being less musical and more raucous than the last.
To illustrate my point about the innocuousness, the last verse goes:
"O when we got to the Frisco docks
The girls were all in their Sunday frocks"

I assume they were just about to go to or had just come from church.
