I first heard this George Formbysong written by Noel Gay in childhood and really loved his nonsense songs. George Formby was a performer that you loved or hated, I loved him. "Leaning on a lamppost" is perhaps one of his better well-known songs. It is a jolly ditty of a young man waiting at a lamppost for his beloved to trip along.
