Working on the New Railroad
Last updated: 11.10.23
This is a song with versions galore with at least two sets of quite different lyrics and much of it ribald, racist and generally politically incorrect. Although Working on the New Railroad is in the Tyneside Maritime Chorus repertoire, I never heard them during the 3 years I spent with them between 2011 and 2013. Their lyrics appear to a mixture of those sung by Sara Grey and Joe Hickerson, For my own enjoyment I use the Tyneside Maritime Chorus lyrics and a tune roughly similar to that used by Joe.
This is an easy-going sing-along song with a repeated first line and a great chorus with a final line of And I've been all around this world. Great stuff indeed! This song may be found in the Tyneside Maritime Chorus songbook
