U Prząśniczki Siedzą
Last updated: 11.10.23
As a shape note singer I have in recent years often visited Warsaw to take part in the Warsaw Sacred Harp Conventions. I always stay at the Castle Inn which is conveniently close to the convention venues. The reception staff at the hotel knowing that I am a folk singer and having sung to them in the foyer they have kindly given me some scores of Polish folk songs. U Prząśniczki Siedzą is one of them.
My Polish is not good enough (in fact I have no Polish but use Google!) to work out exactly what the song is about. It appears to be about a girl spinner gettiny contrary advice from two different boys.
The music was written by Stanislaw Moniuszko and the words by J. Czeczot.
