This particular
Lullaby originally written by one Thomas Decker (c. 1572-1632) was arranged by
Peter Warlock and may be found in
Warlock Songs. Here the lyrics differ from the well-known
Golden Slumbers. The expected "sleep pretty baby do not cry" becomes "sleep little wantons do not cry". Has the meaning of "wanton" changed that much from Dekker's day to Warlock's day? Probably not which sets this ancient mariner a-wondering as to what kind of person or persons one would sing this lullaby too.
Whatever - it is al lovely piece and it has it's place in my lifetime repertoire through the good
Dr. Rosteck.
