Go From My Window
Last updated: 11.10.23
Whilst the sentiments and lyrics are contradictory Go From My Window as sung by the Tyneside Maritime Chorus has a tune that is strikingly similar to that given in Come to my window. In the former, the courted maiden spurns her beau (The Devil's in the man) whereas in the latter she yearns for him (I am thine, oh thou knowst I am thine).
Whatever - I love both these songs.
The Tyneside Maritime Chorus version as composed by Benny Graham is beautifully intricate some lines are sung by "women only" [sic] set against a 3-chord bass counterpoint. Lovely stuff!
This song may be found in the Tyneside Maritime Chorus songbook
