Well, sixty-four is looming up for me and it strange to still be singing a song first learned over thirty years ago. The version that I sing and play can be found in
Lieder, Songs und Gospels 1 and it seems to be pretty close to the original although it is set in G. The version given in
Beatles Songs for the Recorder is straight forward without the fiddly bits in the middle.
"When I'm sixty-four" is always a joy to play, I likes its bouncy tune and gentle, optimistic sentiments - I mean,
"Doing the garden, digging the weeds ....", what could be more sublime?
