Car-Barlick-Acid is an ingenious rag which Wiley quickly sold to the Giles Bros. of Quincy, Illinois in 1904 and they in turn resold it to the New York publishers, Witmark in 1907. It was no idle boast of Wiley's when he proclaimed that his composition was "something new in rag-time, a hot piece of ragtime, an excellent piano piece for rag-time lovers and also a fine two-step and cake walk". With all that billing it is no wonder that it changed hands so much - that is a whole lot of attributes for the buck! The rag itself has an AABBCCBB form with an 8-bar introduction. The C-strain is of 32-bars whilst the A- and B-strains are each of 16-bars excepting the closing B-strain which is modified and truncated to 12 bars. Wiley dedicated his one-and-only work to his friend Miss Fay Watts.
