Length: approx. 4½ mins. Sounds best with doubled 1st tenor and bass. There are four sections using the major keys B-flat, B-flat, B-flat and A-flat. Joplin dedicated The Nonpareil (None to Equal) to Miss Mildred Ponder. Because of its simpler structure, some commentators believe that it had been composed at an earlier date and was on hold in storage until a more propitious publishing window of opportunity arose. The bass player will enjoy the runs in the third section.
The Nonpareil was published by the Stark Music Co, St. Louis, Missouri, USA, and a piano roll was produced.
A tempo of 60 crotchets/min. is suggested.
