This classic rag, the first Joplin piece to have a tempo marking, lends itself very well to adaptation for recorder. All hands, to use naval parlance, are fully occupied and the performers will enjoy the melodic flow between the voices. Its obvious two-step quality just begs for dancing!

Joplin suggested a tempo of 100 crotchets/min. but the rag loses nothing if taken more slowly, say 72-80, especially with recorder.
