The Ragtime Dance is an absolutely delightful rag, and with its stamping - is wildly exhilarating! This recorder adaptation is really and exaggeratedly for the ragtime purist! Not one note or "stamp" has been left out making demands on the descant and 2nd tenor in taking basses just for a handful of notes. The final two sections are distinguished by Joplin's experimentation in getting further Stop Time effects by requiring the performer (in this case the descant player) to stamp in a clearly defined manner. This piece is a precursor to Joplin's Stoptime Rag (1910) ( DBE 042) where precisely 173 "stamps" are required. By the way, hardly any harm is done if the additional basses are left out - as said, it is intended for purists!
