This is a "classic" ragtime composition with a 4-bar introduction followed by two repeated 16-bar sections in C. A 16-bar passage (actually a repeat of the first section) separates the final two repeated 16-bar sections in F. The cover of the original sheet music suggests inspirations from the hunting scene (see page 8) and possibly explains the bugle-call like introduction. As it is, it is a very pleasant jog-along piece, as if at a gentle canter, and well suits the timbre of the recorder with its delightful interplay between the voices.
