Daniels wrote
Silver Heels using the
pseudonym Neil Moret. Perhaps for the modern ear it may be considered a little cliché-ridden but for this editor's taste, the intermezzo has its charms. Sombre passages contrast with brightness and there are many tonal flights allowing the melody voices to demonstrate their prowess. Alternation and bar-counting are the orders-of-the-day, just the stuff for disciplined recorder ensembles. It is written in the form of AABBACCDCDC with a 4-bar introduction whereby the AB- and CD-strains are in the major keys of D and G respectively. The cover of the original sheet music appropriately shows and Indian maid solemnly dancing in a forest setting.
