Daniels wrote Pearls using the pseudonym Neil Moret. This novelette delights with its changes of tempi, ingenious bell and pizzicato effects and above all with the charms of its melodies. It is written in the sonata form of AABACCA with an 8-bar introduction and an 8-bar coda whereby the A-, B- and C-strains are in the recorder players' favourite flatted major keys of Eb, Ab and Db respectively. As with so many of Daniel's pieces this if fine stuff indeed for a recorder sextet where the melodies are shared by all voices - even the basses have their say. A real string of pearls!
Pearls was published by Jerome H. Remick & Co., New York & Detroit, USA.
A tempo of 128 crotchets/min. is suggested.
