Length: approx. 2 mins.
Going on the titles alone, it is the author's idle conjecture (entirely without factual foundation it is hastened to add) that the trio of 1921 compositions comprising
Poor Buttermilk,
My Pet (1921) and
Kitten on the Keys (1921) are thematically connected. The strains remind the author of a beast (a pet house cat or kitten called Buttermilk perhaps?) prowling about in a not especially friendly state-of-mind with ill-humoured tail-twitching in search for something or other.
What all the named piece do have in common are the heavy demands made on the performer, their genuine novelty and the delight they give to audiences and performers alike.
Poor Buttermilk was published by
Jack Mills Inc., New York, USA.
A tempo of 180 crotchets/min. is suggested.
