Valeska Suratt was an American stage and silent film actress born in Owensville, Indiana.
She started as an actress on the Chicago stage and she began appear in vaudeville in 1900. She partnered Billy Gould and they created a successful act that included an exotic Apache dance performed by Suratt. She made her Broadway debut in 1906 and went on to appear in 11 silent films. Valeska was noted for the high fashion clothes she wore on stage and was sometimes called the "Empress of Fashions".
By 1920, Suratt's career had begun to wane and appeared to be unofficially blacklisted following a law suit.
She died in Washington, D.C
