Length: approx. 2¾ mins.
Chicago Express is a classic march with simple, very simple melodies. It opens with a spirited 8-bar, bugle-call like introduction leading into a repeated 16-bar first section with a maddeningly simple tune, somewhat reminiscent of
Euphemia Allen's
The Celebrated Chop Waltz (1877). The 2nd section, marked Brilliante, is also a 16-bar repeat (its melody still simple but not quite so maddening) leading up to a bass-dominated 32-bar 3rd section. This 3rd section reminds one of circus parades or something similar. The march is rounded off with a repeated 16-bar final section marked Grande. All in all, this is a well-composed fun-piece and this recorder adaptation should give considerable enjoyment both to performers and audiences.
