Length: approx. 2¼ mins. Sounds best if the bass is doubled
Just Noise, aptly titled A Real Rag is just that! It has an ABACC form with a 4-bar introduction whereby the A-strain is of 20 bars and the B- and C-strains are of 16 bars each. The first four bars of the A-strain suggest a vamp with emphasis on the bass voices. The plain cover of the original sheet music in an eye-catching bright orange and red belies the no-nonsense approach of the rag itself. In this adaptation for recorder the melodies are shared between the upper voices - a real ensemble piece and anything but Just Noise.
Just Noise was published by Southwestern Music Publishing Co., Tulsa, Indian Territory, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
