Clyde I. Stewart
Last updated: 01.02.24
C.I. Stewart is another obscure ragtime era one-off composer of which nothing is presently known. His only known work, Just Noise - A Real Rag (1906) was published by Southwestern Music Publishing Co., Tulsa, Indian Territory. Whether an American Indian, an immigrant, black or white is still to be determined. The name could also be a pseudonym.
Since writing the above in 2006, "Perf" Bill Edwards" has recently (November, 2011) very kindly sent me a further titbit of information in that C.I. Stewart was actually "plain old white folk" who according to the 1910 Census worked as clerk in a music store in Tulsa and was named as Clyde I. Stewart, born in Pennsylvania.
