Purchasing information Notice for leaders/bass players
Length: approx. 2¾ mins. Sounds best if the 2nd tenor is doubled.
Panama Rag , which should not be confused with
William H. Tyers' jazz classic
Panama (1911), is much admired and recorded even to the present day. Its form is AABBACCB with a 4-bar introduction. An all tenor/bass affair in which the 1st tenor will take particular pleasure in having all the melodies from start to finish. The 2nd tenor on the other hand has some bar-counting to master (at the same time an intelligent air has to be maintained). The basses have to go easy on the oomph's to allow the delightful melodies to show their beauty especially in the lower registers.
Panama Rag was published by
Albright Music Co, Chicago, Illinois, USA.
A tempo of 94 crotchets/min. is suggested.
There is also a
tenor solo version of this item.
