Paramount Rag is another jolly, classic and dare it be said, paramount Scott rag in AABBCCDD form. The A and B strains are in Ab-major whilst the C and D strains are in Db-major. A fine fun piece which explores the upper registers and the 2nd tenor will surely enjoy exchanging his or her tenor for a sopranino to stand in the limelight when performing the B strain. The cover of the original sheet music is coloured with a sombre dark green showing a forest background with an angelic violinist and cherubic harp player as the centrepiece, quite at odds with the character of the piece. Please remember that this was wartime composition and that canny Quaker publisher John Stark utilised this artwork from another earlier Scott piece named
Evergreen Rag (1915).
