Length: approx. 2¾ mins.
This arrangement of Antonín Dvorák's Humoreske will no doubt not find much favour amongst the purists but for the ragtimer, it is a welcome addition to the genre's repertoire of syncopated waltzes and jazzed-up classics. Its form is ABABA and it is written in the major keys of F and Ab, the latter being used only for the 2nd B-strain. In this adaptation for recorder sextet, special care should be taken with the 2nd A-strain which is played in a quasi-staccato manner contrasting with the smooth syncopation of the 1st and final strains. It should be exquisitely and lightly double-tongued with as much expression as possible to avoid a machine-gun effect.
A tempo of 180 crotchets/min. is suggested.
Humoreske was published by Warner C. Williams & Co., Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.
