Frolic of the Bears is a descriptive waltz of eight bears who in the second act enter the stage into the wooded scenery just after the old conjurors Zodzetrick, Luddud and Simon have departed on their evil mission to punish Treemonisha for spoiling their business. This piece demonstrates Joplin's genius in creating a dramatic atmosphere which is intermingled with bright moments simultaneously expressing happiness and sadness. The bears leave as soon as they hear people approaching. In course of the frolic, the bears intone "Oo-ar!" and the score is marked
Bears when this takes place. The basses have the happy task imitating the ursine beasts with tied dotted minims.
