William J. Braun dedicated Cotton Pickers Rag to the Jefferson Guards. It is a fine cakewalk in AABBACCBB form with a 4-bar introduction whereby the AABBA- and CCBB-strains are in the major keys of F and Bb respectively. The final bars in the original sheet music are scored DC al fine but no corresponding Fine is anywhere to be found. Closer inspection of the score suggest that the Fine could be placed at bar 36b which has a final look about it. If so then bars 1 to 36b could be repeated. If this is too long, then for my taste I would simply repeat the A- and B-strains singly. Please experiment.
Cotton Pickers Rag was published by Louis Grunewald Co. Ltd., New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
