George A. Norton  (1880-1923)

George A. Norton was an American lyricist and composer of popular music. He is chiefly remembered for writing the lyrics to Ernie Burnett's Melancholy (1911) which later became the standard My Melancholy Baby. It has been recorded by the likes of Teddy Wilson, Sonny Rollins and Frank Sinatra amongst many others. Of ragtime interest is his The Black Hand Rag (1910) which he dedicated to "The Rag-time King", Mike Bernard.
