p_teytem.jpgAccording to the Internet source given below, Maggie Teyte (née Margaret Tate) was an English operatic soprano and interpreter of French art song born in Wolverhampton.
She studied at the Royal School of Music and in Paris becoming a pupil of the tenor Jean de Reszke. After a successful career in France she performed in music halls and variety venues such as at the Victoria Palace in London. Due to her recordings of Claude-Achille Debussy songs in 1936, she gained a reputation in England and the United States as the leading French art song interpreter of her time.
She made her first New York appearances in 1948 and continued to record and perform in opera until 1951 Her final concert appearance was at the Royal Festival Hall in 1956.
She died in London.
