According to the Internet source given below, Pia Loman began studying the recorder in her native Sweden in 1982. After a year of musical education and study with Anna Wallin at Ingesunds Folkhogskola she was accepted as a student at the Carl Neilson Academy in Denmark in 1992. During her study Pia Loman gained the highest possible mark for an examination concert, awarded to her by Dan Laurin in 1996. The same year she was a prize winner in the ERTA solo recorder competition for contemporary music. As one of only four recipients of a cultural scholarship in southern Sweden, she continued her studies at the Malmo Musikhogskola under Erin Headley and guest teachers such as Nancy Hadden, Lars-Urik Mortensen, Steven Stubbs and Suzie le Blanc. Pia Loman performs with the
Sirena Recorder Quartet that she establshed in 1993 with
Marit Ernst Bock, Karina Jensen [
Karina Helene Agerbo] and
Helle Nielsen.
As a group. they were prize winners in a chamber music competition arranged by Danish radio in 1998 and the same year won first prize in the Danish FAN competition for contemporary chamber music. As a soloist. Pia Loman performs Baroque music with a number of chamber groups and will be performing Bach Cantatas and Vivaldi Concertos in Lund (Spring 2000). A great enthusiast of contemporary music. she finds much inspiration in communicating with modern composers and discovering new possibilities and capabilities for the recorder.
