Length: approx. 2¾ mins. Sounds best if the 2nd tenor plays the lower notes of chords only.
St. Louis Rag is one of two rags that celebrated the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (St. Louis World's Fair), the other being Scott Joplin's The Cascades (1904). The piece itself is a mature Turpin composition and it seems that he no longer had the need of an arranger - perhaps because of his success with earlier works his fame had become sufficiently established that publishers accepted his offerings without further embellishments by third parties. In this adaptation for recorders, the treble voice especially will enjoy the calls on virtuosity and the tenors will have to play their "chordy bits very precisely to attain the composer's intention.
St. Louis Rag was published by Sol Bloom, New York & Chicago, USA.
A tempo of 86 crotchets/min. is suggested.
