Length: approx. 3 mins.
Cowperthwait Centennial March was especially composed for the centennial celebrations of Messrs Cowperthwait and Sons, a 19th -century New York furniture business and credit pioneer founded in 1807. The march itself is in AABBCCCC form with a 4-bar introduction and a 16 bar interlude separating the CC- and B-strains whereby the AABB and CCCC sections are in the major keys of C and F respectively. In this adaptation for recorder sextet, the melodies are shared by the treble and 1st tenor voices. A well-crafted march of which it is assumed that the piece's commissioners of yore found as much enjoyment in it as the listeners of the present day no doubt will.
Cowperthwait Centennial March was published by
Leo Feist, New York, USA but also retailed by Cowperthwait and Sons.
A tempo of 150 crotchets/min. is suggested.
