Tickle the Ivories is a brilliant, original and creative gem of a composition with many nice touches. It was featured in J.C. Williamson's Musical Play
Katinka which was based on the Russian tale of a woman who did not wed her lover but married someone else from a sense of duty. The rag's form is AABBACC with a 4-bar introduction, the whole being written in F-major. One of the lovely touches that I particularly admire in this adaptation for recorder sextet is in the B-strain where the melodic line rises from the 1st tenor through the treble and on to the descant whilst the basses march nobly downwards. Great stuff indeed and delightful music!
