Purchasing information Notice for leaders/bass players
Length: approx. 4¼ mins.
Pretty Polly is a fine fox trot in a fairly involved ABBACDAB form with a 4-bar introduction which also doubles as an interlude between the D-and A-strains. The A- and B-strains are of 16 bars and in the key of C-major. They are contrasted by the C- and D-strains which are of 32- and 24-bars respectively and written in the recorder player's favourite key of Ab-major. An all tenor/bass affair which should especially delight the 1st tenor who has all the running from start to finish.
The cover of the original sheet music show as, as one might expect, a gaily coloured parrot against a bright floral background quite in keeping with the spirit of the composition.
