Johann C. Schmid

Overview

In the last few years (2012 and before) there has been considerable correspondence amongst compilers of works' lists regarding Marie Louka. "Her" name graced many items of sheet music and without any research it was generally assumed, by myself included, that "she" was a ragtime era lady composer. Due to the efforts of the composer's grandson, Lewis J. Thomas Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri, and John McDonnell it has been determined unequivocally that Marie Louka was in fact a pseudonym .

Johann C. Schmid was a prolific composer and it is quite surprising that so little is known about him.
