According to the Internet source given below, Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim, also known as Tom Jobim , was a Brazilian composer, pianist, songwriter, arranger and singer born in Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro.
Together with American artists, he merged bossa noca with jazz and as such he is regarded as the "father of bossa nova". Perhaps his best known song is Garota de Ipanema (The Girl from Ipanema) becoming a much recorded jazz and pop standard,
He died in New York.
