He studied in Genoa and in Vienna under Philippe de Monte. From 1584 to 1589 Dalla Gostena was kapellmeister at the San Lorenzo Cathedral in Genoa. His works include organ works, canzonettas, several madrigals and 3 magnificats, published in Venice and Genoa.
