Overview

There is very little known about Ellis R. Ephraim, composer, songwriter and publisher, other than the bald facts given on his published sheet music covers. Internet searches have uncovered some 21 pieces composed by him and published by an astonishing no less than 10 publishers, including himself, located in Baltimore and New York. His works include marches, cakewalks, intermezzi, sentimental songs such as She's Gone to the Land of Santa Claus (DBE 469 - 1904) and comic songs such as The Goose Step (1901) which pokes fun of the marching styles of the then European powers compared with that of the American. Of ragtime interest is his amusing He Won't Come Back No Never-- A Syncopated Stutter (1898).
