Personal remarks:
This is an excellent songbook for the student of
Geordie folk music and is subdivided into 4 collections as follows:
- The Bishopric Garland, or Durham Minstrel, which first appeared in 1784 an enlarged in 1792 (18 songs including Elsie Marley)
- The Yorkshire Garland, published in 1788 (6 songs)
- The Northumberland Garland, dated 1793 (16 songs including The Collier's Rant)
- The North Country Chorister, issued in 1792 (6 songs) including Tommy Linn [Brian O'Lynn]
