p_valleer.jpgAccording to the Internet source given below, Hubert Prior Vallée was an American singer, musician, actor, host and one of the first teen idol pop stars born in Island Pond, Vermont.
In his teens, he played drums at high school and clarinet and saxophone in bands around New England. From 1924 through 1925, he played with the Savoy Havana Band at the Savoy Hotel in London and then returned to the States to study at University of Maine and Yale University.
In 1928 he formed Rudy Vallée and the Connecticut Yankees in which he sang and started performing on the radio. He also started recording in 1928 on a number of labels, his last hit record being a reissue of As Time Goes By (1931) by Herman Hupfeld.
During World War II, he directed the 11th district Coast Guard Band as a Chief Petty Officer and was promoted to Lieutenant before returning to radio in 1944. His film career spanned from 1929 to to1956 and from 1948 to 1952 he owned Vallee-Video, a television production company.
He died in Los Angeles, California.
