Newcastle concert-hall song writer and performer in the 19th century. His best known songs are probably
The Fiery Clock Fyece and
Drunken Bella Roy O both of which are still sung today. A roof slater by trade, after suffering a serious injury that cost him his vision, he was unable to continue employment, taking up music to support his wife and three children.
His works were published in
Allan's Tyneside Songs and
Fordyce's The Tyne Songster and
A Choice Collection of Tyneside Songs (1863).
